There are many different problems that manifest themselves as skin or soft tissue lesions or masses in the hand. Some of these can be managed simply by observing them for changes, while others may warrant treatment. The most common hand masses are ganglion cysts. These are small cysts located in the deep tissues of the hand that arise from the joints of the wrist and fingers or from the tendon sheaths around the fingers. In certain circumstances, the cyst may be able to be drained with a needle in clinic, while others may warrant surgical excision either in the clinic or in the operating room.
